What is the process of getting my Painting Contractors license?

I want to start a small painting business on the side. Interior painting in Oregon. Apparently I’m required to get my contractors license for indoor painting, go figure.

How much does it cost, is it difficult, what is the process?

Anyone know much about this?

You are correct about getting a contractors license in Oregon, just to start a small painting business. I think that this requirement is about the stupidest thing that i’ve ever heard. I could understand that they require general contractors and major mechanicals to have licenses, but to make a painter pass a test, and pay them money, is just another government way to legally rob their citizens, IMO. But, to show the proper "state authority" that you can use a paint brush, you have to jump through a LOT OF HOOPS! IF IT WAS ME, I would pick up my paint brush and go to work. There is no death penalty for working without a contractor’s license in Oregon – at least, not yet. I’m not advocating that you do this – just saying what I would do for myself. If you so choose to become a licensed contractor, please review the following requirements, and see the link to take you to their home page. Hope this helps!!

To become a licensed contractor in Oregon you must:

Complete the prerequisite training and pass CCB’s statewide test.
File your assumed business name, corporation or LLC at the Oregon Corporation Division.
    Submit a CCB surety bond.
Provide proof of general liability insurance.
Provide evidence of worker’s compensation and other employer account numbers if applicable.
Submit a completed CCB application with the $260 fee for two years.
